About The Position

The City of Deltona is seeking a dependable and hands-on Parks Maintenance Technician to support the upkeep of parks, facilities, athletic fields, and public spaces. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, is comfortable working outdoors, and can handle a variety of maintenance tasks to keep City facilities safe, clean, and operational. The purpose of this job/class within the organization is to provide semi-skilled to skilled work in a variety of fields in the maintenance and upkeep of the public parks, grounds, buildings, athletic fields and related facilities and equipment. This job/class works under close supervision according to set procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Requires two years in construction maintenance and repair or closely related experience.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within six (6) months of hire
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Hands-on experience with maintenance, repairs, and groundskeeping
  • Can safely operate tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Reliable, accountable, and able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Can respond to after-hours or emergency situations when needed

Responsibilities

  • Conducts general mechanical, electrical, and plumbing repairs and painting on equipment, buildings and grounds operated by the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Orders parts and services from vendors in compliance with purchasing guidelines.
  • Sets up park functions requiring moving bleachers, tables, chairs.
  • Prepares reports and records for the Maintenance Division.
  • Maintains nature trails; removes trash and debris.
  • Perform routine grounds maintenance activities such as mowing and edging lawns, planting and trimming hedges.
  • Layout, plant, trim, weed, fertilize and apply mulch to flower and landscape beds.
  • Clean sidewalks, awnings, City buildings and recreation facilities as needed.
  • Maintains, constructs and repairs playground equipment.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
