About The Position

The purpose of this part-time position is to provide park maintenance and support to the Parks & Recreation Department. This role involves general ground maintenance, landscaping duties, equipment organization, general labor, and restroom cleaning. The position requires the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.

Requirements

• Ability to understand and correctly follow instructions, rules, operations, safety practices, procedures, and perform work accurately and thoroughly.
• Ability to interact with the public and coworkers in a professional and congenial manner.
• Ability to perform strenuous and routine work which requires consistent physical labor.
• Basic ability to communicate and recognize meaning of common two or three syllable words.
• Basic ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations.
• Basic ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or a series of numbers, names, and addresses.
• Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information.
• Knowledge of ground maintenance equipment and techniques.
• Skilled in operating both light and medium equipment.
• Skilled in the use of small hand tools and power tools.
• Good knowledge of general ground maintenance techniques.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all people.
• Ability to be punctual and attend work regularly.
• Mobility within a field and outdoor environment is required.
• Must be able to work flexible hours, and holidays and weekends as needed.
• This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing during the course of employment.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED equivalent, is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides general ground maintenance including mowing with a push mower, edger, and weed eater; trimming trees and shrubs; digging; cleaning and maintaining equipment; and providing litter and waste control.
• Assists with various landscaping duties as directed including laying natural material; laying sod; planting and watering; and pulling weeds.
• Organizes and maintains necessary equipment and supplies for daily assignments.
• Performs general labor which may require operating various small power tools and lifting.
• Cleans and maintains restroom facilities.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
