About The Position

This position performs routine park maintenance under general supervision. The primary purpose of this is to maintain the Municipality of Anchorage park land and facilities in a safe and usable condition for the general public to enjoy. The duties of this position focus on homeless camp cleanup work: Under Parks Caretaker II guidance, clean up illegal camps and store personal belongings as needed. While utilizing safe work practices, remove trash, debris, and waste to restore Municipal property to usable conditions. Dispose of removed articles in a safe and sanitary manner. Other duties include litter collection, snow and ice removal, ice maintenance, general grounds and facility cleaning and repair. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Three (3) months experience in lawn, landscape, trails, construction, grounds, or facility maintenance.
  • Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.
  • Applicant must be capable of bending, twisting, and kneeling.
  • Applicant must be able to lift and carry items weighing more than fifty (50) pounds.
  • Applicant must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a copy of the applicant's Alaska driver's license and a current copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicles' driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.
  • If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

  • Veterans who wish to be considered for an interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran or similar document. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge.
  • An individual currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wishes to be considered for an interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application.
  • Include any volunteer work with AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, or other national service programs on your application in the work history portion.
