About The Position

Works with the Recreation Facilities Manager to successfully maintain, plan, and implement professional recreation services and programs in accordance with the mission and stated goals of the department. This supervisory role requires strong leadership qualities, good communication skills, excellent customer service skills, and strong organizational skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Park and Recreation Administration or closely related field and up to two years’ related experience and/or training in Parks and Recreation management, including supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics and the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to perform basic budget management.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to become a certified First Responder by the American Red Cross.
  • Must pass a background security check.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, and evaluate three full-time employees, approximately 40 part-time employees, 30 seasonal employees, and 20 contractors.
  • Oversees the operation and management of three aquatics facilities: the Bentonville Community Center Competition Pool, Leisure Pool, and the Melvin Ford Aquatic Center.
  • Recommends the purchase of recreation equipment and services from outside vendors.
  • Provide programming, scheduling, event management, customer service, and general facility supervision for all aquatic facilities.
  • Develops and introduces new recreation programs activities, equipment, and materials to recreation management.
  • Interprets recreation programs to the public, sponsors, and participates in community meetings and organizational planning.
  • Acquires sponsorships, donations and/or other in-kind services as needed for the organization and implementation of recreation programs.
  • Develops and maintains relations with other recreation providers in community.
  • Manage an annual budget of $850,000 in expenses and $500,000 in revenue.
  • Prepares and presents reports that detail information such as financial data, facility attendance records and recreation program evaluations.
  • Participates in the development of the recreation budget and directs and monitors the expenditure of department funds and keeping of department records.
  • Enters purchase orders and executes purchases of equipment and supplies.
  • Tracks expenses and revenues generated by the programs and facilities.
  • Implements corrective measures as needed and reports status regularly.
  • Makes recommendations for capital improvements and equipment.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and communication to members and the public.
  • Ensure the facility and surrounding grounds are safe, clean, and suitable for recreational activities.
  • Distribute department marketing materials to the public.
  • Fosters the cooperation and teamwork of city recreation and non-recreation personnel.
  • Work with professionals in medicine, social work, nursing, psychology, and therapy to ensure well-balanced and integrated recreational services.
  • Participate in professional associations, conferences, workshops, and training to stay current with industry trends.
