About The Position

Acts as a visible presence in Town parks, athletic fields, public tennis and pickleball courts, and other parks and recreational properties under the jurisdiction of the Parks and Recreation Department — promoting public safety, protecting natural resources, ensuring appropriate park & field use, and providing information and assistance to visitors. This is a seasonal position, working approximately 15 - 25 hours per work, from March – early December. The schedule includes weekends and variable hours depending on operational needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience dealing with the public in a variety of customer service and rule enforcement circumstances.
  • First Aid, CPR and AED certification required (training provided if needed).
  • Must possess valid driver's license.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain professionalism in all public interactions.
  • Proven ability to work independently and follow established patrol routines.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays to meet operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols Town parks, athletic fields, public tennis and pickleball courts, and other outdoor Town recreational areas by vehicle and on foot; follows a daily itinerary and patrol routine that may vary depending on operational needs.
  • Acts as a public information source and provides visitor assistance, ensuring positive public relations.
  • Monitors park usage and identify irregularities, including vandalism, violation of wildlife protection rules, excessive litter, non-permitted organized activities, or misuse of facilities.
  • Communicates any observed potential hazards, equipment damage or misuse of equipment to appropriate personnel.
  • Checks and verifies that areas are being used by the correct individuals or groups with proper permits and passes.
  • Enforces ordinances, park rules, and regulations to ensure safe and appropriate use of public spaces.
  • Interacts with individuals and groups as needed regarding field use, rules, and regulations; requests assistance from law enforcement if escalated or unsafe situations arise.
  • Issues warnings and documentation when warranted and provides copies to supervisors in the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Opens and closes park facilities as assigned.
  • Assists with reporting weather and field conditions as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
