SDOT is looking for a collaborative, hands-on Parking Pay Station Technician to support our Parking Operations team within the Transit & Mobility Division. In this role, you’ll help keep the City’s on-street parking pay stations running smoothly—an essential service that supports transportation access and City revenue. You’ll install, maintain, and repair parking pay stations and related equipment throughout the public right-of-way. Your work ensures that payment devices stay reliable, accurate, and accessible for everyone who uses them. This position requires strong technical troubleshooting skills, mechanical and electronic aptitude, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced field environment. Clear communication, sound judgment, and excellent customer service are key.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in parking equipment repair, electronic component repair, computer repair, OR two (2) years of technical college in a related field may be substituted for two years of experience in parking equipment repair, electronic component repair, computer repair.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position duties.
  • A valid Washington State Driver's license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with parking equipment, kiosks, automated payment systems, or similar public-facing technology.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, or equipment documentation to support repairs and installations.
  • Experience working independently in outdoor or field environments while managing daily work priorities and responding to service requests.
  • Experience with using mobile devices, maintaining management systems, or computer-based applications for tracking work orders and documenting repairs.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to professionally interact with the public while performing work safely in active right-of-way environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on parking pay stations and related equipment to ensure reliable operation and reduce downtime.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and software issues using diagnostic tools, system data, and manufacturer resources.
  • Respond to service requests, alarms, and customer-reported issues, prioritizing field work to quickly restore system functionality.
  • Install, configure, test, and activate new or replacement pay stations, including programming and verifying system performance.
  • Monitor device performance and help identify recurring issues or opportunities to improve system reliability.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and written records of maintenance activities, repairs, inventory usage, and completed field assignments.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, technicians, vendors, and internal partners to support system upgrades, equipment deployments, and operational improvements.
  • Provide courteous customer service when interacting with the public in the field.
  • Support department goals related to diversity, equity, and social justice.
