About The Position

This full-time position is the first level in a two-level Parking Services “meters section” devoted to providing customer service and pay station upkeep. This position will provide daily preventative maintenance and repair of all on-street multi-space pay stations (meters) deployed in the downtown area. Work may include responding to customer concerns, running reports, regular cleaning of meter cabinets, graffiti removal, pay station removals and reinstallations, and maintain records for repair history. Incumbents will be responsible for weekly coin collection.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
  • Less than 1 year experience in maintenance and repair of small equipment, parking meters, or related work OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
  • Knowledge of common hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of basic electronics and computer repair
  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods, and materials that are assigned for work
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical concepts
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and other applicable safety principles and practices
  • Knowledge of proper use of supplies and equipment
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures including the use of standard office equipment and computer applications, such as word processing
  • Skill in following directions and meeting standards
  • Skill in providing attention to detail in assignments
  • Skill in performing work tasks without assistance from others
  • Skill in comprehending reference books and manuals
  • Skill in operating assigned tools and equipment
  • Skill in organizing and maintaining records and files
  • Skill in interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards (based on assignment)

  • Ability to read and understand maintenance manuals of on-street pay stations

Responsibilities

  • Provides daily monitoring, testing, preventative maintenance, and repair of all on-street pay stations
  • Removes pay stations during long construction; reinstalls when projects are complete
  • Provides regular cleaning of the cabinets; removes graffiti immediately when discovered
  • Responds to electronically generated trouble alerts in a timely manner
  • Provides guidance/instruction to customers in the proper procedures for operating the pay stations
  • Prepares and maintains records for inventory items, repair history, communication failures, etc. as required
  • Responds immediately to customer reports of machine malfunctions
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned
