About The Position

Under the direction of the Parking Services Manager, the Parking Maintenance employee maintains the cleanliness and order of public and private parking lots at Albany International Airport. The role may involve occasional overtime and evening and weekend shifts. Duties and assignments may change periodically. The position follows the provisions of the SMART/UTU TD collective bargaining agreement.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Prior experience in general maintenance.
Must pass security clearance requirements and required drug testing.
Must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver's license; may be asked to acquire a CDL.
Ability to read and recognize similarities and differences between words and series of numbers; print and speak sentences; understand simple instructions, correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; and present information effectively in one-on-one and small-group situations.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, including using units of American money.
Ability to apply common sense to oral and written instructions and address problems involving variables in standardized situations.
Ability to follow established rules and safely operate a variety of equipment.
Ability and willingness to follow directions and work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong oral communication skills, good judgment, assertiveness, courtesy, and tact when working with diverse groups, including the public.
Ability to regularly stand, sit, use hands, reach, talk, and hear; frequently walk; and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds.
Vision abilities required include near and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Adequate hearing, correctable vision, and manual dexterity to operate equipment safely.
Ability to perform physical work, operate mechanical equipment for extended periods, climb stairs, and work from ladders.
Ability to follow safety procedures when operating equipment and vehicles, handling irritant materials, and performing repetitive activities.
May be required to wear protective clothing as needed.

Responsibilities

Respond to reports of malfunctioning equipment and perform minor repairs and maintenance.
Resupply ticket stock as necessary.
Keep parking lots and areas around entryways, exit plazas, and buildings free of trash and debris; empty trash receptacles and ashtrays as required.
Perform janitorial duties in parking lots and buildings, including changing light bulbs, spot-cleaning stains, cleaning stainless steel and handrails, vacuuming staircases, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning glass.
Wash garage floors and stairwells as directed.
Remove snow and ice by plowing, snow blowing, and shoveling walkways, plazas, parking lot roadways, and garages; apply ice-melting products throughout parking facilities.
Assist customers with vehicle jumpstarts, adding air to tires, and locating vehicles, while presenting a friendly and helpful image.
Maintain the Economy-Lot Comfort Station and bus shelters, including washing and cleaning shelters as required.
Assist construction efforts with traffic control, staging, and passenger assistance.
Remove and relocate portable signs and barriers.
Operate maintenance equipment in lot areas, along curbing, and in commercial lanes.
Maintain landscaped areas in and around parking lots and buildings.
Monitor traffic and help direct it during peak operating periods.
Participate in Total Quality Management Programs.
Clean, wash, wax, and fuel parking vehicles as requested.
