About The Position

The City of Asheville is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Temporary/Seasonal Parking Attendant. This role involves providing customer service, assisting drivers with entry and exit in City public parking garages, supporting parking garage event operations, and performing custodial duties as needed. This is a temporary position and does not include benefits.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required.
One year of work experience that shows an ability to maintain steady employment in any field.
Ability to learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures.
Ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.
Ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, long periods of walking, prolonged periods of going up and down stairs and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (15-30 pounds).
Ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, and visual cues or signals.
Ability to communicate orally.

Responsibilities

Assist customers with parking equipment and process payment transactions at entrances and exits.
Direct traffic at garage entrances and exits during high traffic special events.
Give direction and other information to people entering/exiting parking garages and respond to customer questions and complaints.
Perform custodial duties to address urgent cleaning needs in the garages.
Assist with repairing gates and setting up barricades.
Observe and report suspicious or criminal activity.
