About The Position

This is moderately independent work providing Visitor Services, Resource Management, Maintenance, Administration and Protection of Madison Blue Springs and Suwannee River State Park. This position will assist Park Manager with daily coordination of work assignments and training of staff and volunteers; maintain park facilities, equipment and trails to meet or exceed Florida Park Service standards; perform inspections, ensure park is safe, clean and accessible for all visitors and staff; keep records; monitor spring clarity; and maintain proper inventory levels.

Responsibilities

  • VISITOR SERVICES – Explains facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment and education; meets visitors, answers questions, provides information and directions. Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations. Provides natural and cultural history interpretive programs and unit specific services as directed. Develops brochures, park fact sheets, maintains Park’s website, and develops kiosks and informational handouts. Oversees and assists Park Manager in training staff in proper procedures and practices.
  • RESOURCE MANAGEMENT – Observes, maintains and protects the natural, cultural, historic and archaeological resources of the park. Participates in natural resource management and related activities; maintains optimum species control via natural and chemical means. Coordinates erosion control management and plant and animal identification and documentation. Oversees and assists Park Manager in training staff in proper procedures and practices.
  • MAINTENANCE – Constructs, cleans, maintains, and repairs park grounds, facilities and equipment utilizing appropriate tools and equipment. Makes routine inspections to ensure proper maintenance standards are met. Works with park management to plan for and execute large scale maintenance and construction projects. Oversees and assists Park Manager in training staff in proper procedures and practices.
  • ADMINISTRATION – Performs and directs data entry required to maintain park records. Monitors and audits park revenue procedures and related reports. Performs or directs adjustment to cash register and/or CRS computer and weekly reports programs. Collects fees, performs cash register transactions and reconciles receipts. Oversees and assists Park Manager in training staff in proper administration procedures and practices. Prepares forms and reports on a wide range of subjects. Maintains park filing system. Answers telephone and operates various office equipment; Implements a volunteer program to include the tracking, monitoring, and training of seasonal and year-round volunteers.
  • PROTECTION – Performs routine patrols and takes appropriate action to ensure visitor safety and adherence to park rules; ensures adherence to the Park Protection Plan. Opens and/or secures park facilities as appropriate. Oversees and assists Park Manager in training staff in proper procedures and practices.
