About The Position

The Park Ranger performs routine work to ensure the City’s parks are properly maintained and patrolled for the City’s Parks and Recreation Department. This position is responsible for a variety of tasks including reservations management, conducting patrols of City parks, maintaining cleanliness of facilities, and performing various necessary maintenance. This work is performed under close supervision, with the incumbent assigned duties according to specified procedures and receiving detailed instructions. Work is checked frequently and reviewed through observation, completion of work orders, and review of results achieved.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in general grounds maintenance.
  • Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License, Class E or higher.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand, power, and small engine tools.
  • Ability to operate equipment and vehicles in a safe manner under various conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, city officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate information tactfully and impartially, both in person and in writing with all staff, city officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and keep accurate records.

  • General knowledge of basic landscaping and lawn maintenance techniques.
  • General knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules, and practices of the work.

Responsibilities

  • Check and confirm all field and park facility reservations.
  • Educate and inform visitors of City code violations relating to activities in City parks.
  • Conduct patrols of the City parks to ensure visitor safety and report suspicious persons or activity.
  • Deter undesirable conduct of visitors and report any significant activity to the Police Department and/or Code Enforcement.
  • Handle visitor complaints and fill out incident reports.
  • Maintain cleanliness of restrooms and park pavilions, which includes but is not limited to emptying trash containers in restrooms and throughout parks, cleaning toilets, sinks, floors, and refilling paper product dispensers.
  • Perform maintenance work such as pressure washing of restrooms, pavilions, and other park structures.
  • Load, deliver, and unload various supplies and equipment.
  • Perform other work as assigned.
