About The Position

Arizona State Parks and Trails is hiring a Park Ranger for Buckskin Mountain State Park. This role involves supporting the operation and maintenance of a recreational, historic, or natural resource park, hosting visitors, collecting fees, performing general park upkeep, and interpreting natural features or historical artifacts. The position also ensures public safety by enforcing park rules and regulations, using a two-way radio, conferring with local officials, and completing incident reports. The agency's mission is to connect people with the outdoors and the history of Arizona to build a lifetime of memories, and it is a leader in sustainable outdoor recreation for current and future generations. Arizona State Parks and Trails protects and preserves over 30 state parks and natural areas, and also includes the statewide trails program, outdoor-related grants program, the state historic preservation office, and the off-highway vehicle program.

Requirements

  • Establish good rapport with the public and provide interpretive education.
  • Maintain park facilities, grounds, systems, and equipment.
  • Keep visitors safe with first aid techniques and rule enforcement.
  • Work with agency resources, including oral/written communication, interpersonal relationships, and general office procedures.
  • Handle cash transactions while welcoming visitors in a friendly manner.
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Juggle multiple tasks.
  • Possess and maintain a current Arizona Driver's license appropriate to assignment.
  • Completion of Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), required for all newly hired State employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience equivalent to a Park Ranger Assistant.
  • Three years of work experience in customer service, library or museum work.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Park Management, Forestry, Natural Resources Management, or a closely related field.
  • Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician, Electrician, and/or Wastewater Treatment Operator.

Responsibilities

  • Support the operation and maintenance of a recreational, historic, or natural resource park.
  • Host visitors, answer questions, and address concerns.
  • Collect and account for fees.
  • General Park upkeep including basic carpentry, irrigation, landscaping, repair projects, litter removal, trail maintenance, restroom cleaning, and maintenance of facilities and specialized systems/infrastructure.
  • Interpret natural features of the area, or historic objects /artifacts for visitors.
  • Lead guided programs.
  • Maintain interpretive exhibits and displays.
  • Ensure public safety by enforcing park rules and regulations.
  • Use a two-way radio communications system.
  • Confer with local officials and law enforcement officers.
  • Complete necessary reports concerning incidents.
