Park Ranger 1 - Permanent - L.L. Stub Stewart State Park
About The Position
Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is recruiting for two permanent Park Ranger 1 positions. Both roles share core responsibilities in park operations, customer service, maintenance, and visitor engagement. Each position also has a primary focus area: Park Ranger 1 - Maintenance & Operations and Park Ranger 1 - Volunteer Service Lead. The department serves its visitors and all Oregonians through its properties and programs, and recognizes that the state’s resilience and beauty are strengthened by its diverse population. Requirements
- Two (2) years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
- An Associate's degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies or a related field; AND Six (6) months of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
- Criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.
- Maintaining a valid driver’s license.
Nice To Haves
- Direct experience working in day-use areas, overnight campgrounds, or outdoor recreation parks, especially in roles involving visitor interaction, rule enforcement, campground operations, or facility maintenance.

- Facility and landscape maintenance, including basic janitorial, plumbing, carpentry, painting, grounds-keeping, and safe use of related tools and equipment.
- Providing customer service and resolving complaints related to day-use, overnight camping, and park rule enforcement.
- Working with diverse teams of employees, volunteers, and park hosts to help coordinate and accomplish daily tasks, park projects, and community events.
- Working in parks with overnight camping, day-use facilities, multi-use trails, and equestrian facilities.
- Cash handling, fee collection, deposits and reservation systems.
- Using computers for data entry, emailing, creating letters/memos, generating spreadsheets, scheduling volunteers, and event coordination.
- Developing and delivering park presentations and community events within resource interpretation programs (for Volunteer Service Lead).
- Recruiting and coordinating volunteers to support park operations, events, and projects (for Volunteer Service Lead).
