About The Position

Your New Role As a permanent, full-time, Park Ranger 1, you will play a vital role in protecting and caring for the landscapes, facilities, and visitor experiences within The Cove Palisades Management Unit. Each day brings something new as you work hands‑on to maintain park grounds, repair and operate facilities and equipment, and help preserve the natural and cultural resources that make this area exceptional. You will put your skills in carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, painting, landscaping, and general maintenance to use while also contributing to specialized programs such as resource interpretation, ecological restoration, utility system operation, and park rule enforcement. Requirements

  • Two years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping)
  • OR an Associate’s degree or higher in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies and 6 months of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping)
  • Criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Skill and knowledge of basic park and campground resources, facility operations, maintenance, resource interpretation and related project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively listen, ask appropriate follow‑up questions to gather essential information, and communicate with others using consistent courtesy and professionalism.
  • Experience enforcing park rules including safety.
  • Experience in the safe use and basic mechanical repair of tools, material and equipment associated with landscape, building, facility and utility system maintenance.
  • Experience performing basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, grounds-keeping tasks.
  • Skill in giving direction concerning work procedures to individuals or teams composed of volunteers and/or correctional facility adults in custody.
  • Ability to accurately perform a variety of computer-based tasks, including email communication, word processing, data entry, record keeping, spreadsheet generation, and use of task‑specific software such as reservation, inventory, or maintenance systems.
