About The Position

The Park Maintenance Worker provides a safe, operational, and hospitable park facility using building maintenance and grounds-keeping skills individually or as a team. Duties include using multiple skilled areas in facility maintenance, turf management, sports-field management, operation of specialized equipment, park rule enforcement, and visitor interaction in a flexible work schedule that includes weekends and holidays and possibly evenings. This classification is distinguished by performing basic custodial, maintenance and groundskeeping functions within assigned park areas. This classification may require a flexible work schedule in order to meet the needs of the department.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of custodial or building and grounds maintenance experience; OR, Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of: Policies, practices, procedures and methods of assigned function.
  • Knowledge of: Applicable safety practices and regulations.
  • Knowledge of: Cleaning equipment, products, techniques and standards.
  • Knowledge of: Equipment and tools used in custodial, maintenance and groundskeeping functions.
  • Knowledge of: Federal, State, Local and County applicable laws, rules, regulations and guidelines.
  • Skill in: Operating cleaning equipment, such as mops, buffers, strippers, waxers and vacuums.
  • Skill in: Cleaning floors, windows, walls and concession stands, and unstopping toilets.
  • Skill in: Operating grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Skill in: Trash maintenance.
  • Skill in: Both verbal and written communication, including conveying and following instructions and providing information to the public.
  • Ability to: Safely and correctly apply custodial and grounds maintenance techniques.
  • Ability to: Understand and follow instructions and communicate effectively, as required.
  • Ability to: Work independently and efficiently.
  • Ability to: Manage time well and meet timelines.
  • Ability to: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees and officials, representatives of outside agencies, and the general public.

  • Texas Pesticide and Herbicide Applicator's License.

Responsibilities

  • Mows and line trims common areas.
  • Mows and maintains sports fields.
  • Inspects areas and equipment to ensure operational and rectifies or refers problems to supervisor.
  • Cleans and maintains all trails, including weed control and leveling to prevent safety hazards.
  • Inspects trails to ensure operational.
  • Provides visitors and other customers with accurate information regarding parks and park rules.
  • Performs minor painting, carpentry, plumbing, irrigation and fence repair or other repair.
  • Detects, reports and assists in correcting safety hazards in the parks.
  • Cleans, restocks and maintains restrooms, shelters, and maintenance buildings.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
