About The Position

The City of Newberry is seeking a hardworking, dependable, and team-oriented Parks Maintenance Technician. This role is crucial for maintaining the parks, athletic fields, and recreational facilities that serve the community. Responsibilities include preparing athletic fields to championship quality, maintaining playgrounds, parks, and public spaces, and ensuring these environments are safe, clean, and welcoming for residents and visitors.

Requirements

Valid Florida Driver’s License or equivalent from another state
High school diploma or GED.
Ability to safely operate equipment and perform physically demanding outdoor work.
Must meet and maintain Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) requirements to serve as a Non-DOC Inmate Supervisor

Nice To Haves

Experience in parks, grounds, landscape, athletic field, or facilities maintenance.
Experience operating commercial mowing equipment, tractors, trailers, or other grounds maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

Maintain parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, and recreational facilities to ensure they are safe, clean, attractive, and ready for daily use, tournaments, and community events.
Operate and maintain equipment, tools, and vehicles used in park and athletic field maintenance.
Support daily park operations by responding to maintenance needs, preparing facilities for recreational programs and special events, and assisting with event setup and breakdown.
Promote a safe work environment by following established safety practices, identifying hazards, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with operational and safety standards.
Supervise inmate work crews in accordance with Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) requirements, ensuring compliance with safety procedures, work standards, and reporting requirements.
Provide excellent customer service while working collaboratively with coworkers to support the Parks & Recreation Department and uphold the City's TRAILS values.
