About The Position

El Paso County is seeking a dedicated Park Maintenance Technician I to join their team. This role involves performing a variety of maintenance, landscaping, and light construction tasks to ensure parks are beautiful, functional, and safe. Responsibilities include mowing lawns, maintaining irrigation systems, coordinating seasonal crews, supporting local events, and operating equipment like tractors and skid-steers. The position offers a hands-on experience with opportunities for growth in a supportive environment.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance, hand and power tools, painting, plumbing, and minor electrical repairs.
  • Ability to work independently and carry out assignments in a safe and proper manner.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with County staff and the public.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical work in all types of weather.
  • Ability to safely operate light and heavy equipment.
  • Must observe and follow safety procedures and precautions.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • One year of professional experience in grounds maintenance or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Performs unskilled or semi-skilled labor in grounds maintenance, facility or equipment maintenance, and construction, including turf and irrigation maintenance, horticulture activities, minor construction, facility cleaning, and trash collection.
  • Performs labor tasks required in the maintenance of park facilities, including the use and operation of specialized vehicles, equipment, and power tools as needed for assigned maintenance and improvement projects.
  • Operates light and heavy equipment and vehicles such as riding mower, skid-steer, and tractor.
  • Performs routine inventory, routine preventative maintenance, and cleaning of assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Coordinates the activities of seasonal staff and/or volunteers performing related work.
  • Drives County vehicles and other equipment to perform assigned duties; operates all County vehicles and equipment in accordance with County guidelines.
  • Provides departmental support for special events and other activities.
  • Performs other duties as required.
