About The Position

The Cosumnes Community Services District is seeking part-time seasonal and part-time year-round Park Maintenance Aides. Under close supervision, the Park Maintenance Aide performs a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks in the maintenance of restrooms, parks, trails, landscaped corridors, medians, and open spaces. This position is used only within the Park Operations Division of the Parks and Recreation Department. These positions require candidates to provide courteous and professional service to all Cosumnes CSD park and facility users. Functions and responsibilities expected to be performed may vary by area of assignment. These positions require candidates to be available to work a variable schedule of 16-32 hours per week including early mornings, nights, and weekends, and holidays. Candidates may be scheduled to start as early as 5:00 am or end as late as 12:00 am. Actual hours assigned may vary depending upon the needs of the division. Part-time regular, year-round Park Maintenance Aides in the Park Operations Division are represented by Teamsters Local #150 and may be eligible for a full-time benefited apprenticeship program. Part-time seasonal Park Maintenance Aides are scheduled for a maximum of 960 hours each fiscal year.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • None required (experience)
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, First Aid and CPR/AED certification within the first thirty (30) days of employment; Certification must be maintained through employment.
  • Must possess, and maintain throughout employment a valid California Class "C" driver's license, with a clean driving record.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Knowledge of current methods, techniques, and procedures in cleaning, maintaining and making minor repairs of indoor and outdoor facilities including grounds and landscaping.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of customer service.
  • Knowledge of basic operation of equipment used in cleaning, maintenance and minor repairs such as, but not limited to, mop, floor buffer, lawn mower, hedge trimmer, pressure washer, hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and calculate percentages and decimals.
  • Ability to operate light machinery and a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to perform highly repetitive tasks such as manual labor.
  • Ability to understand plumbing and irrigation maintenance at a level sufficient to clear plugged drains and change commercial irrigation sprinklers.
  • Ability to effectively and tactfully communicate both orally and in writing with program participants, user groups, CSD personnel and the public.
  • Ability to comprehend and prepare reports and forms such as accident reports, incident reports, and inventory lists; reservation agreements, room and set up charts/schematics, and calendars using a prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.
  • Ability to comprehend and correctly use a variety of informational documents such as, but not limited to, time sheets, blueprints, Material Safety, Data Sheets, and Safety Manuals, policy manuals, and instruction manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general and routine cleaning of district facilities including but not limited to offices, public restrooms, kitchens, walkways, parking lots, picnic areas and other adjacent areas.
  • Cleans, maintains, and repairs parks and recreational facilities such as but not limited to parks, parkways, landscaped corridors, medians, swimming pools, sport fields, picnic areas, and public restrooms.
  • Mops and vacuums floors, removes cob webs, dust and debris from walls, floors, and ceilings; cleans mirrors, windows and disposes of trash.
  • Cleans, maintains, and repairs building fixtures and related equipment such as, but not limited to walls, fences, gates, tables, park amenities, and signs. including basic carpentry, plumbing, landscaping, painting and electrical tasks.
  • Assists with maintaining and repairing drinking fountains and irrigation systems.
  • Operates and maintains equipment such as mop, vacuum, floor buffer, lawn mower, hedge trimmer, pressure washer, trailers, vehicles, hand and power tools.
  • Provides courteous and professional service to all facility users, CSD personnel and the public.
  • Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with Department safety standards and the District Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
  • Reports all broken, damaged or unsafe conditions to supervisor lead worker on duty.
  • Implements guidelines from District and Department policies and procedures manuals.
  • Arrives on time and in proper attire/appearance as required by CSD guidelines.
  • Assists with events and rentals in the parks including set-up, clean-up, and monitoring of event/rental.
  • Keeps records and makes reports; may use a computer to enter and retrieve data and communicate electronically.
  • Attends and participates at staff meetings and trainings.
  • Provides assistance to supervisors and lead staff as required.
  • Assists in the inspection of CSD maintained properties for vandalism and maintenance standards.
  • Required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • May inventory, requisition, and maintain custodial and cleaning supplies.
