Requirements

  • Formal Education, which includes basic arithmetic and/or business math.
  • Must be comfortable in a customer service role and working in an outdoor setting.
  • Must have experience operating a computer.
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
  • Hearing/Speaking - Expressing and/or receiving information by means of spoken word are both necessary to converse with customers in taking food and merchandise orders, when renting items and selling fishing needs, and when customers call on the telephone for information.
  • Visual Abilities – the ability to perceive via eyesight is required for this position: Acuity, far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see people in around the marina, lake, and surrounding park area. Both eyes 20/25 – R 20/30 – L 20/30 corrected Acuity, near – clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see resale items, cash register, and other work items close at hand, such as numerous documents that are inspected (licenses) or prepared on the job. Both eyes 20/22 corrected
  • Depth perception – Three-dimensional vision and the ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. Must be able to judge distances so as to use both hands in performing different tasks at the same time. Depth perception – 4
  • Field of Vision – the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Must be able to see a wide span to cover lake and surrounding park area and customers entering and leaving area.
  • Accommodation – Must be able to adjust the eye lens to glance quickly. This item is especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from eye. Must be able to adjust eye lens to focus readily when glancing from near work (equipment operation, observer near at hand, etc.) to distance work (people walking around in vicinity of equipment) to monitor activities and ensure safety at all areas.
  • Physical Strength – degree of physical demands typically associated with this position include: Medium to Heavy Work Exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently in preparing sailboats or other watercraft for rent, which involves draining, lifting, and transporting; and/or A negligible amount of force constantly to handle or move materials related to the position. Work requires walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, stretching, pushing, and pulling, although worker does sit on occasions. There is significant use of arms, hands, feet, and legs.
  • Type of Physical Demands Reaching - Extending the hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Handling - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand(s). Fingering - Picking, pinching or otherwise working with fingers primarily rather than the entire hand or arm.
  • Mental Activity/Requirements Reasoning Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to work tasks and practical situations and requests made by supervisor or members of the general public; to comprehend and respond to a variety of situations in an expedient manner. Good judgement is important because the individual will interact directly with the public on a constant basis and may be working in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Mathematics Ability Using arithmetic and/or Statistics: Ability to use arithmetic to add charges to concession purchases and ticket sales, price merchandise, calculate tax percentages, count money and make change, figure daily revenue collections, and make various reports.
  • Language Ability The ability to speak, read and write the English Language are required for this position.
  • Environmental Conditions Physical Surroundings The Park Attendant – Operations employee is subject to Outside Environmental Conditions: Exposed to the various weather conditions and temperatures. Combining the type of work performed with the typically hot weather conditions, the worker should be one who can work outside in a hot environment. The position is best suited for someone who likes working in and around water.
  • Hazards The Park Attendant – Operations employee will be exposed to trash, garbage, lake, and cleaning chemicals. Work is subject to final standards of OSHA on bloodborne pathogens.

Responsibilities

  • Opens and closes meeting and event center facility/park for general use and reservations.
  • Assists with setup and breakdown of programs, reservations, events.
  • Performs basic cleanup inside meeting and event center facility, concession stands, marina and facility restrooms.
  • Interacts with public and provides excellent customer service to patrons and participants.
  • Enforces reservation policies, safety rules, and usage rules and regulations of facilities.
  • Sells fishing and boating permits, fishing tackle, and live bait including minnows and worms.
  • Rents boats, kayaks, stand up paddleboards, pedal boats and life jackets.
  • Drains boats upon return and prepares them for next rental (inspects and repairs).
  • Collects tickets for and operates amusement rides including train, carousel, and excursion boat.
  • Performs regular daily maintenance of equipment and ticket booths.
  • Informs patrons of local and state fish, game and boating regulations.
  • Operates concession stand, sells amusement ride tickets, merchandise and food items.
  • Oversees miniature golf operation, dispenses clubs, balls, and score cards; monitors golf play and participant behavior; gives general park information and directions to shelters, rides, etc.
  • Performs daily maintenance on amusement rides, concession stand and gate booth cleaning before and after operation.
  • Prepares food items, stocks resell items such as crackers and potato chips, and operates various related machines, i.e., popcorn popper, cotton candy, fountain drinks, etc.
  • Assists with setup and breakdown of programs and events.
  • Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA City Standards and Policies.
