About The Position

The Office of State Parks (OSP) serves the citizens of Louisiana and visitors by preserving and interpreting natural areas of unique or exceptional scenic value, planning, developing and operating sites that provide outdoor recreation opportunities in natural surroundings, preserving and interpreting historical and scientific sites of statewide importance and administering intergovernmental programs related to outdoor recreation and trails. This position is located at Bayou Segnette State Park in Westwego, LA. The purpose of this position is to serve as the primary assistant to the Park Manager in the management and administration of the site's operations, fiscal management, personnel, maintenance, customer service, interpretive, and facility management activities.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in the operation, administration, or maintenance of parks, outdoor recreation, or historic sites; or in parks or conservation work; OR Three years of experience in law enforcement, interpretive services, mobile equipment operation, building construction or maintenance.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing the maintenance, operation, and upkeep of park facilities and grounds.
  • Plan, approve, and promote park programs, special events, and community activities.
  • Conduct routine inspections of park facilities, playgrounds, and recreational areas to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Manage site expenditures and assist in preparing and administering the park's operating budget.
  • Oversee the collection, reconciliation, and deposit of revenue generated through park admissions, camping, and other fees.
  • Prepare fiscal, revenue, visitation, and operational reports to support informed decision-making.
  • Coordinate major maintenance, construction, and capital improvement projects with Resource Development staff, contractors, and other agency personnel.
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement and community partners to promote public safety, prevent vandalism, and enhance the visitor experience.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with neighborhood organizations, community groups, and external agencies as the park's representative.
  • Develop project plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents for park improvements and equipment purchases.
  • Schedule work assignments, establish priorities, and provide day-to-day leadership and direction to park staff.
  • Evaluate employee performance, provide coaching and feedback, and complete performance management documentation.
  • Identify employee training and professional development needs to build a skilled and effective team.
