About The Position

As a facilitator, your role is to assist parents reach outcomes in family law cases that are in the child’s best interest. Duties include: (1) helping parents agree on a parenting plan, including parenting time, decision-making, calculating child support, co-parent communication, and other identified concerns; (2) reviewing dissolution or uncontested paperwork to ensure the parenting plans and child support are complete and accurate prior to the parent’s first court hearing; (3) interviewing children when ordered by the court and providing a written summary; and (4) coaching high-conflict parents using the Bill Eddy New Ways for Families method, including individual sessions with each parent to educate them about healthy co-parenting tools and communication techniques. Additionally, you will attend trainings, review literature applicable to the field of child custody, follow updates on changes within the laws, rules, and cases related to child custody, and case consult with other Parenting Plan Facilitators or professionals. This will include regular meetings with dispute resolution staff to discuss office functions, issues, or processes. This position will assist with day-to-day operation of the office when administrative assistant is on leave or unavailable.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, law, criminal justice, or a closely related field AND two years of professional work experience in the above fields working with families.
  • OR Five years of related professional work experience in the field of family law may substitute for the Bachelor’s Degree.
  • OR Ten or more years of professional experience in the above fields working with families.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work with minimal direction.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in remaining neutral, calm, and professional while dealing with high conflict or emotional people.
  • Ability to work with numerical data and compute calculations according to applicable rules and formulas.
  • Experience drafting and preparing letters, orders, memoranda, or other professional documents.
  • Ability to hold meetings via telephone and through video conference platforms, primarily Zoom.
  • Experience organizing, maintaining, and updating office files and/or record systems.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must attach a letter of interest, completed post-secondary transcripts (if using education to meet minimum qualifications), and a list of three professional references.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate level training or lengthy experience in social work, psychology, law, education, child development, counseling, behavioral sciences, or a closely related field.
