This position provides assistance with parenting support groups that are held in various locations across the community. The incumbent works with as an integral part of the agency team of staff and volunteers and reports to the Manager of Parenting Education and Support. Responsibilities include facility set up and clean up, providing child-minding services, setting up toys and materials, facilitating games and activities, and assisting with care and feeding to babies, infants and small children. This is a temporary part-time position until the return of the incumbent, with 3-15 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Education and/or experience working with preschool children
  • Experience assisting people in a group format
  • Experience working with a broad cross-section of individuals including young parents, people from diverse cultural backgrounds and people living in poverty.
  • Experience working in public and/or community facilities and/or agencies preferably in the Central Okanagan communities
  • Demonstrated ability to work with children and create a fun, stimulating and caring environment.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment often dealing with child-related crisis.
  • Ability to function independently and manage emergency situations related to children.
  • Demonstrated interest in working in a team milieu with other staff, community agencies and volunteers.
  • Strong commitment to family, parenting and healthy child development.
  • Criminal Record Search in accordance with agency policy
  • Employees must declare their vaccination status for COVID-19 and influenza; if vaccinated, documentation must be provided.
  • Valid Unrestricted BC Driver’s license and use of reliable vehicle
