Requirements

  • Must be a parent/legal guardian of a child(ren) who have previously been involved in LA County DCFS, Probation Department, Department of Mental Health, or Regional Center.
  • Cannot have an open DCFS or Probation case within the past year.
  • High School Diploma/GED preferred.
  • Previous Parent/Family Partner, Peer Advocate and/or Parent Advocate experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with high-risk children and families preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Must posses and maintain a valid CA drivers’ license, automotive liability insurance, and a driving record acceptable to agency’s insurance carriers.
  • Good oral, written and organizational skills.
  • Physical ability to perform Pro-ACT, administer first aid/CPR, and operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to receive and implement constructive feedback.
  • Employees are expected to support children’s emotional and social development by encouraging understanding of others and promoting positive self-concepts.
  • All employees must have the ability to treat those served by our agency in a caring and respectful manner, mindful of individual differences and cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity.
  • Employees must remain aware of any personal emotions, transference, and/or countertransference that may hinder the ability to remain professional.
  • Employees are expected to maintain composure during all interactions and crisis situations, implement a self-care plan, and utilize crisis communication to deescalate client crisis and prevent any serious bodily injury or harm.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize personal and professional life experience to provide peer support to parents and caregivers served by the program.
  • Access community-based resources appropriate to the family’s needs commensurate with the wraparound philosophical principles.
  • Interface with Department of Children and Family Services, Department of Mental Health, court systems, schools, health care providers and other community liaisons.
  • Assist family with developing a needs/strength assessment, comprehensive Plan of Care.
  • Provide support and advocacy which are family-centered, community and strength-based.
  • Provide 24-hour availability and crisis intervention on an as needed basis or regularly scheduled basis which may include weekends and evenings.
  • Conduct visits to homes and or other service providers in order to help client achieve their plan of care goals.
  • Facilitate a monthly parenting support group and collaborates with team members regarding its implementation and promotes participation from clients.
  • Provide parenting education to parents utilizing a parenting curriculum.
  • Follow states laws and agency guidelines regarding child abuse reporting.
  • Maintain weekly service provision requirements.
  • Active participation in administrative and clinical supervision and meetings.
  • Ensure accuracy in work and that all deadline expectations are met.
  • Maintain consistent and regular attendance.
  • Follow up with supervisor in a timely manner regarding significant issues.
  • Demonstrate ownership of work responsibilities by incorporating feedback, taking initiative, and interacting in a professional manner within assigned role and adhering to agency guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality as required by St. Anne’s, licensing, HIPAA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Follow and adheres to all field safety guidelines.
  • Participate in mandatory training, in-services and meeting.
  • Participate in the Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) of the agency.
  • Other duties as assigned.
