About The Position

The ASPIRE (Achieving Success through Parental Involvement Reading and Education) Program is a 2-generation program providing education for families with children 0-7 years old who are in need of ESL and/or GED classes. The different services provided in the ASPIRE Program are evidence-based parenting classes, early childhood education, adult education, “parent as teachers” home visits and inter-generational literacy activities. ASPIRE services approximately 100 families per year! The Parent Educator provides support and coaches parents on child development best practices to meet the needs of the whole child and help their children reach their developmental milestones. Parent Educators conduct local home visits using the Parents As Teachers curricula and facilitate group parent classes here at our southeast Austin program site. All training is fully paid and mentoring will be provided to ensure your success! This position is ideal for individuals who desire a school-type schedule (evenings and weekends off) with work-life balance, up to 9 weeks paid time off per year, including holidays, fully paid medical and dental insurance, and the opportunity to support children and families in our Austin community.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children 0-7 years and families OR a minimum of five (5) years of experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge of brain and early childhood development
  • Demonstrated experience engaging parents as partners
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting vulnerable families
  • Demonstrated cultural competency when serving families from different backgrounds
  • Experience using data entry software and Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Access to reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Parents as Teachers Certification, preferred
  • Bilingual, Spanish language proficiency, preferred
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood Intervention services
  • Experience teaching and role-playing positive parenting strategies in larger groups
  • Understanding on best practices in early childhood learning
  • Experience in play-based learning
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, or related field is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assess family needs and identify parent/guardian goals for the child and family
  • Plan and prepare developmentally appropriate activities for each child
  • Provide monthly personal visits to families in their home
  • Administer and record screenings and assessments
  • Refer families to resources to support referrals on a regular basis
  • Maintain case files for each family
  • Prepare for and teach weekly parent group meetings
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings
  • Submit reports as required and scheduled
  • Participate in the CIS team approach to service delivery
  • Promote and maintain agency culture, standards, and systems
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the ASPIRE Parent Education Coordinator or ASPIRE Program Director
