About The Position

This role provides leadership in parental involvement and public relations activities, focusing on informing parents and the community about district and school events. The specialist works to articulate and promote the school system’s vision, developing goals and programs consistent with this vision. They are responsible for managing educational resources, including finances and technology, with a focus on parental involvement and public relations. A key aspect of the role is coordinating district-wide parental involvement and awareness activities, serving as a liaison between parents and school personnel, and conducting workshops for parents and professionals. The specialist also works to identify and meet the needs of homeless children and families, supports social workers and community agencies, and ensures staff are trained on the value of parental involvement. They are involved in the development of parent involvement policies and plans, coordinate family activities with principals and staff, and may assume classroom duties or provide homebound services. Additionally, the role involves designing and implementing the student handbook, creating a district-level summer reading camp, and developing a Parent and Family Engagement Plan for each school and the district.

Requirements

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education or business administration or a related field of study.
A valid teaching license.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership in parental involvement and public relations activities.
Inform parents and the community of district and school events.
Articulate and promote the school system’s vision of learning and teaching.
Develop goals, objectives, programs, and operations consistent with the school system’s vision, mission, and goals.
Ensure unit and program plans are consistent with the system’s plan.
Organize daily, monthly, and yearly schedules to facilitate completion of assigned tasks.
Communicate high expectations of students, staff, and parents/guardians.
Administer the finances and resources of the district with sound fiscal management and educational practices.
Achieve maximum results for available resources and money spent.
Understand and utilize available technology of the district with focus on parental involvement achievement and public relations activities.
Coordinate the planning and implementation of district-wide parental involvement and awareness activities.
Assist in monitoring parental involvement at the school level.
Coordinate the selection of the district-wide Parent of the Year.
Serve as liaison between parents and school personnel.
Plan and provide activities related to parent involvement that would enhance the school’s or district’s climate.
Cooperate with administrators in implementing the parent involvement program according to state and federal guidelines.
Conduct workshops and presentations for parents and professionals on topics related to family engagement.
Update parent handouts pertaining to family engagement information and referral sources and distribute to all other staff members, as appropriate, and community stakeholders.
Work with parents and teachers in improving the achievement level of students by assisting parents and volunteers in learning activities.
Work to ensure homeless children and families’ needs are identified and steps are taken to meet those needs through school resources and community agencies.
Support and work with social workers, counselors, and community agencies that can contribute resources to assist families as needed.
Provide support to ensure that school staff is trained on the value of parental involvement.
Ensure that parents are involved in the development of parent involvement policy, plan, and compacts.
Coordinate with school principals and staff to coordinate and plan family activities.
Assume classroom duties (homebound services).
Design and implement the student handbook that is utilized by the district.
Create and implement a district level summer reading camp.
Create and implement a Parent and Family Engagement Plan for each school and the district level.
Perform other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent, the Deputy Superintendent, and/or the Superintendent’s designee.
