This role provides leadership in parental involvement and public relations activities, focusing on informing parents and the community about district and school events. The specialist works to articulate and promote the school system’s vision, developing goals and programs consistent with this vision. They are responsible for managing educational resources, including finances and technology, with a focus on parental involvement and public relations. A key aspect of the role is coordinating district-wide parental involvement and awareness activities, serving as a liaison between parents and school personnel, and conducting workshops for parents and professionals. The specialist also works to identify and meet the needs of homeless children and families, supports social workers and community agencies, and ensures staff are trained on the value of parental involvement. They are involved in the development of parent involvement policies and plans, coordinate family activities with principals and staff, and may assume classroom duties or provide homebound services. Additionally, the role involves designing and implementing the student handbook, creating a district-level summer reading camp, and developing a Parent and Family Engagement Plan for each school and the district.
