Parents are a vital partner in the collaborative efforts of the Region 7 Perinatal Quality Collaborative to ensure that birthing people and babies are healthy and thriving in Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties. Their experiences, perspectives, and contributions can help inform changes to make systems more equitable, culturally responsive, and family centered. To increase the engagement of parents, Region 7 will establish a parent ambassador program which will hire 2-3 Parent Ambassadors to carry out the essential functions as described below. Essential Functions Parent ambassadors will be a parent or primary caregiver of a child who is birth to kindergarten entry OR a person who has experienced a pregnancy within the last five years. Ambassadors will serve as a point of contact for parent representatives and support them in participating in Region 7 meetings and activities. Ambassadors will also identify and recruit new parent representatives. Ambassadors will provide coverage for all three counties in Region 7 (Eaton, Clinton and Ingham). Ambassadors will serve a term of one year and may be invited to reapply on an annual basis based on adherence to roles and responsibilities outlined in this document and current funding. A parent may serve as an ambassador for a term no longer than five years or when their child enters kindergarten, with a possibility of an extension. Ambassadors will receive an orientation to being an Ambassador where the roles and responsibilities for them and for Region 7 Leadership will be explained. They will sign an agreement to abide by these roles and responsibilities. This document will include language about termination if responsibilities are not met. Ambassadors will reach out to parent representatives to be a point of contact and to support them in participating in Region 7 meetings and events. Ambassadors may develop online spaces for fostering a cohort of Region 7 parents (e.g., Facebook group). Ambassadors will recruit individuals who meet the criteria of Parent Representatives and invite them to join the Region 7 Collaborative. Ambassadors will attend specific Region 7 Leadership meetings to support parent and community engagement efforts. Ambassadors will help to identify events and opportunities to attend in their ambassador role. Take photos at events for inclusion on social media (and evidence of activity). Ambassadors will be provided with R7 swag for events (e.g., shirts, items, banner). ICHD will supply Ambassadors with equipment to support their role (e.g., tablet). If an Ambassador determines they are unable to fulfill their obligations and would like to step down, the Region 7 Leadership team will determine the best course of action on a case-by-case basis, which may include: Recruiting from new parent representatives. Asking the current Ambassador for recommendations. Reviewing previous applicants. Provide monthly documentation of activities and hours spent. Other Functions: Performs other duties as assigned. Must adhere to departmental standards in regard to HIPAA and other privacy issues. During a public health emergency, the employee may be required to perform duties similar to, but not limited, to those in his/her job description. Must adhere to departmental standards in regard to confidentiality and other privacy issues. Ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner, change focus on projects as needed and multitask. Dependable and regular attendance required. Ability to handle stressful situations on an occasional basis. Ability to maintain excellent customer service during stressful situations.
