The Parasitology Laboratory Technician performs laboratory analyses and tests. In addition, they prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests and read, interpret, and release results. This role is responsible for meeting minimum department requirements for Para and Giardia reading/releasing rates, exercising judgment in evaluating and reporting results, and performing equipment maintenance activities. The technician must maintain awareness of quality control and calibration, assist lead or supervisor with rechecks, and follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. The role also involves maintaining a clean and organized work area, restocking supplies, and potentially being cross-trained to perform other duties such as performing less complex tests, including duties performed by a Para Aide. Participation in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation is expected, as is consulting with senior peers on non-complex Parasitology tasks to learn through experience.
