About The Position

The 2026 - 2027 school year Special Education Paraprofessional pay rate to work on assignment with Capital Area Intermediate Unit is $24.00/hour 5 days of Paid Time Off (prorated based on hire date) The Special Education Paraprofessional will work on student days following the academic calendar year Location: Hill Top Academy - 405 E Winding Hill Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 Schedule: 7:40am - 3:10pm (on full school day), paid through lunch break! Autistic Support classroom - must be comfortable with personal care support and behavior redirection Emotional Support Classroom

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • For Title I positions - Must pass for "highly qualified" as mandated by NCLB
  • PA Child Abuse (Act 151) Clearance
  • PA Criminal (Act 34) Clearance
  • PA Department of Education FBI
  • TB Screening
  • Education Documentation - Diploma OR Official Transcript

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years post secondary, Associate's Degree or higher - preferred
  • Prior public-school experience and/or working with school-aged children in a licensed, certified, or registered provider setting - preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional, behavioral, and/or physical support to individual students or small groups, including on-task prompting, social skills development, and self-care assistance.
  • Support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans by implementing accommodations and strategies as directed.
  • Reinforce learning concepts, classroom instruction, and skill development to help students achieve their educational goals.
  • Work one-on-one or in small groups to provide targeted academic and behavioral support.
  • Assist students in developing organizational, communication, problem-solving, and independent living skills.
  • Guide students through classroom activities, monitor participation and progress, and provide feedback to instructional staff.
  • Promote positive student behavior and help maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, specialists, and school administrators to support student success.
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, arrival/dismissal, transitions, and other non-instructional school activities.
  • Foster positive relationships with students while encouraging independence, confidence, and social-emotional growth.
