Paraprofessional, Mainstream 5-8 (Long Term Substitute)
About The Position
Lowell Public Schools is hiring a Paraprofessional for Mainstream grades 5–8 as a long-term substitute. The paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher in providing developmentally appropriate activities and concrete learning experiences for students with varied developmental needs, including students with special needs and English language learners. The role also supports classroom routines, student movement, safety, and activities such as field trips and emergency drills. Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned by the building principal. Feeding, diaper changing, and toileting are specified only for health positions.
Requirements
- Successfully pass the Paraprofessional test, or have 48 or more college credits, or hold a bachelor's degree.
- Experience with the appropriate age group.

- A bachelor's degree is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist the classroom teacher in providing developmentally appropriate activities and concrete learning activities for students with and without special needs.
- Work with English language learner students.
- Assist students in getting into and out of buildings and classrooms; this may include lifting and carrying students.
- Assist the teacher during activities such as field trips and emergency drills.
- Assist with classroom routines, including snack, dishwashing, clean-up, and bathroom activities.
- Help maintain a healthy and safe environment for children.
- Perform other tasks and assume responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.
