About The Position

This temporary vacancy covers for a paraprofessional who is on leave and is expected to end when the current paraprofessional returns to work. Paraprofessionals assist teachers in providing an innovative, high-quality education program designed to meet the needs of children in Boston Public Schools. They work with school staff to create an educational environment in which quality and continuity are key factors in educating students. The position reports to the Principal/Head of School.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Forty-eight credit hours of college coursework or an associate's degree, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment or WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants.
• At least two years of experience working with young children.
• Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

• Associate's or bachelor's degree.
• Teacher certification or a social worker license.
• Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali.

Responsibilities

• Support direct instruction to children individually, in small groups, and in classroom settings.
• Assist with classroom activities.
• Prepare instructional materials.
• Assist with classroom setup and cleanup.
• Manage individual and classroom behavior using prescribed approaches.
• Supervise students on field trip activities.
• Perform other related duties as requested by the Head of School/Principal.
