About The Position

The Paraprofessional works one-to-one with students, or with small groups, to reinforce learning of material and skills first introduced by the teacher. The role supports instruction, student behavior, mobility, personal care, and daily school routines under teacher direction and supervision. The position also includes assisting students during classroom activities, physical education, meals, transportation transitions, and school events.

Requirements

An associate’s degree or higher; or completion of at least two years or 48 credit hours at an institution of higher education; or passing a formal assessment of knowledge and ability to assist classroom teachers in reading, writing, and mathematics (Parapro Assessment and WorkKeys).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
Help students master equipment and instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
Assist with implementing behavioral modification programs as directed and supervised by the teacher.
Maintain behavioral logs and data on a daily and weekly basis.
Assist with student supervision during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
Assist students with mobility and personal care.
Assist with lunch, snack, and cleanup routines.
Dress appropriately for physical education activities to assist students.
Meet buses and assist students with breakfast and lunch routines.
Assist students with wash-ups, toilet routines, diapering, and tooth brushing.
