About The Position

Paraprofessionals play an important role in supporting students, teachers, and classrooms. Positions may be available in both general education and special education settings. Assignments vary by building and student needs. Positions may include working with elementary, intermediate, middle school, or high school students.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Complete 48 hours at an institution of higher education OR Obtain an associate’s (or higher) degree OR Pass a State approved Paraprofessional assessment
• Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
• Kansas Certification of Health

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with children or individuals with special needs is helpful, but not required for all positions.
• Paraeducator Online Certification test provided by USD 457.

Responsibilities

• Supporting classroom instruction and student learning
• Working with individual students or small groups
• Assisting students with academic, behavioral, social, or communication needs
• Helping maintain a positive and safe learning environment
• Supervising students during classroom and school activities
• Supporting students with daily living or mobility needs, depending on assignment
