About The Position

This Paraprofessional position is for the 26-27 school year at Freire Charter School Wilmington, a high school in Wilmington, Delaware serving grades 8-12. Freire Schools' mission is to prepare students from historically underserved communities for success in college and beyond. The school emphasizes academic achievement, a strong code of conduct, and a supportive community. The Paraprofessional will be part of the student support team, providing direct behavior support to students both in and out of the classroom to help them develop skills for regulation, engagement, and high-level achievement. The role requires openness to feedback and coaching.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required
Valid Delaware Paraeducator Permit, or a clear ability and commitment to obtain one
Experience working with diverse student populations, ideally students with behavioral or emotional support needs
Positive, solution-oriented mindset with a work ethic and collaborative spirit
Patience and composure under pressure

Nice To Haves

RBT certification, nonviolent crisis intervention training (such as CPI), or similar behavior support training preferred, or willingness to complete

Responsibilities

Foster a safe, respectful learning environment by consistently reinforcing school-wide expectations with high standards and warmth for all students.
Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with behavioral, social-emotional, and learning needs, including implementing IEPs, 504 plans, and behavior intervention plans.
Use proactive strategies, positive reinforcement, and de-escalation techniques to help students regulate and return to learning, and respond calmly and safely in crisis situations.
Collect and record behavior data and share observations with teachers and the behavior support team to inform interventions.
Maintain consistent, proactive communication with teachers, staff, and families regarding student progress and relevant school updates.
Engage fully in professional development and collaborate closely with colleagues to best support student learning and growth.
