About The Position

The Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing, college-preparatory K–8 charter schools dedicated to the belief that all children can achieve academic excellence. The Paraprofessional role is crucial in supporting teachers and ensuring students have the necessary tools for success. Working closely with educators, the paraprofessional provides individualized and small-group support, assists with classroom management, and helps create a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment. This position is well-suited for individuals passionate about education, interested in direct student interaction, and considering a career in teaching or school leadership.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and successful completion of the paraprofessional exam, OR Associate’s degree (or higher).
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational or youth-focused setting.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Responsibilities

  • Support lead Teachers in delivering instruction by assisting with lesson activities, classroom management, and transitions.
  • Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to reinforce skills, reteach concepts, and support individualized learning plans.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, orderly, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect and engagement.
  • Substitute for lead teachers as needed to ensure learning continues uninterrupted.
  • Prepare instructional materials, set up classroom resources, and assist with grading or documentation as directed.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of students.
  • Model professionalism, respect, and high expectations in every interaction with students, staff, and families.
