About The Position

The SPARK Program provides a highly structured environment to develop students’ academic, social awareness, social communication, and self regulation skills to create positive relationships with peers in the least restrictive environment. Students are supported in generalizing skills across school environments as needed. Students have been identified with moderate to significant needs in academics, social awareness, social communication, and/or self-regulation. Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, to assist certified professional staff with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives.

Requirements

2 years college credits or equivalent or passing score of the ParaPro Test
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with disabilities.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Able to assist with all aspects of student self-care including toileting
Implement crisis/emergency procedures according to protocol.

Nice To Haves

Experience with ABA principles.
Experience with collecting data.
Prior experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
SafetyCare or comparable de-escalation training preferred.

Responsibilities

Implements lessons and activities with the necessary accommodations and modifications required to meet the individual needs of students in the classroom as directed by the teacher.
Implements interventions and de-escalation strategies with students who display significant behavioral issues within the school setting.
Collect and accurately record behavioral, social, academic,and other data as required per student's specific goals and programming.
Consistently communicates and collaborates with staff to foster student success.
Assist students with physical or social disabilities with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities.
Implements positive behavior support plans and collects data on student progress.
Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, and other related non-instructional areas including self-care (toileting).
Performs other job duties as required or directed by supervisors.
