The essential role of the Pre-Kindergarten Paraeducator is to assist the teacher with instruction responsibilities. This role involves interacting with, supporting, and encouraging children throughout the day, and assisting the teacher in implementing all components of the daily routine, including breakfast, small group activities, and outdoor play. The paraeducator will also help assess students' progress, participate in curriculum planning, and instruct students in the appropriate use of classroom materials and equipment. Additionally, they will assist with classroom management, developing students' problem-solving skills, and preparing materials for activities. Participation in school visits and assisting with the registration and screening of applicants are also part of the role. The paraeducator is required to attend regularly scheduled pre-kindergarten staff development activities and report to assigned duties involving pre-kindergarten children. Maintaining a safe and clean learning environment, assisting with beginning and end-of-day procedures, and working with individual, small, and large groups of students are key functions. The role also includes assisting students in following teacher instructions and providing instructional leadership when working with a substitute teacher. The paraeducator must notify the principal or designated person of impending absences and maintain CPR certification. All other duties assigned by the principal and Early Childhood Coordinator are also part of the responsibilities.
