The essential role of the Pre-Kindergarten Paraeducator is to assist the teacher with instruction responsibilities. This involves interacting with, supporting, and encouraging children throughout the day, and assisting the teacher in implementing all components of the daily routine, including breakfast, small group activities, and outdoor play. The paraeducator will also help assess students' progress, participate in weekly curriculum planning, and instruct students on the appropriate use of classroom materials and equipment. Additionally, they will assist with classroom management, developing students' problem-solving skills, and preparing materials for daily/weekly activities. The role includes participating in school visits, assisting with the registration and screening of applicants, and attending regularly scheduled pre-kindergarten staff development activities. The paraeducator will report to assigned duties involving pre-kindergarten children and assist in maintaining a safe and clean learning environment. They will also help with beginning and end-of-day procedures, work with individual, small, and/or large groups of students, and assist them in following teacher instructions. The position requires providing instructional leadership when working with a substitute teacher, notifying the principal of impending absences, and maintaining CPR certification. All other duties assigned by the principal and Early Childhood Coordinator are also part of the role.
