Under basic supervision, assists Minot Public School (MPS) students in school classrooms with educational programs and special assignments, and provides assistance to Teachers as needed to provide a positive learning and socialization environment for the students. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, assisting MPS students in school classrooms with educational programs, special assignments, and individual assistance; performing duties within scope of authority, and in compliance with MPS policies; supervising, instructing, and monitoring students; conducting exercises and communicating with students to help achieve learning objectives with individual assistance and small group sessions; assisting with supervising students, and encouraging good student behavior; guiding students to stay on task in work and play activities; alerting Teacher to student’s special behavioral and learning issues; assisting students with learning tasks, self-help skills, and Individualized Education Programs (IEP); assisting with development of individual learning plans, class lesson plans, and special events plans; assisting with planning, preparation, development, and distribution of classroom materials; monitoring student behavior and documenting special issues and problems; assuring all required written reports are completed and submitted daily; assisting with clerical duties and record keeping as needed; communicating with students and staff to convey pertinent information while maintaining confidentiality of personal information; assisting with individual and small group interventions to improve student behavior; enforcing MPS policies and rules of conduct, and reporting behavior issues, disciplinary incidents, and other concerns to Teacher or Principal; supervising students to verify compliance with MPS policies; helping students to improve their science, math, and language skills; monitoring students behavior, helping students with social skills, and advising Teacher of complex issues; supporting the relationship between the Minot Public School District and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors, and District staff; maintaining absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and District information; following compliance rules governing child abuse; and performing related duties as required or assigned.
