About The Position

The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider an enjoyable and gratifying employment opportunity with our school. We are looking for a caring and motivated individual to fill a Paraprofessional for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing position in Springville. The paraprofessional assists a classroom instructor and nurses in working with deaf/hard-of-hearing students, who may have additional disabilities. This position is only for the 26-27 school year.

Requirements

  • Practical knowledge of basic classroom techniques and organization.
  • Techniques for assisting and providing effective support to classroom instructors.
  • Practical skills in working effectively with students.
  • Safe and timely response to special classroom situations.
  • Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form.
  • Deal with people in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to drive a state vehicle is required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry over 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • American Sign Language skills preferred.
  • previous experience working with disabled children
  • MANDT training
  • a valid Utah Driver License with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of a Teacher of the Deaf to support instruction, prepare instructional materials, and provide individual or small-group assistance to students.
  • Communicate with the Teacher of the Deaf regarding student performance, progress, behavior, and support needs.
  • Provide personal care assistance to students as needed, including toileting, diapering, tube feeding, changing clothing, and other activities of daily living.
  • Assist with behavior supports and interventions under the direction of the teacher or other designated staff.
  • Support student motivation, participation, skill development, and achievement in academic, communication, functional, and daily living areas.
  • Assist with routine school activities and supervision, including bus duty, recess, lunch, bathroom assistance, transitions, and other assigned student-support responsibilities.
  • Provide direct classroom support by working collaboratively with teachers and students.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and other required documentation related to student services and assigned responsibilities.
  • Prepare instructional materials, teaching aids, adaptive materials, and other resources used to support student learning.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of student needs and the educational program.
