The Bilingual Paraeducator provides instruction/ tutoring in all subject areas to limited English proficient students. This role serves as a liaison between the department, parents, and school staff, and assists in coordinating Parent Advisory Council activities. The paraeducator functions as a liaison between school administration, counselors, teachers, and bilingual students by interpreting communications within the school and with parents. They translate notes, forms, and letters into the students' home language and assist students in developing proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in their first and/or second language. The role involves tutoring and reinforcing content area concepts in the native language, either individually or in small groups, and coordinating with ELAD and/or content teachers to schedule this tutoring. The paraeducator also assists the teacher in maintaining discipline and a positive classroom climate, attends relevant workshops and meetings, and helps with necessary record-keeping for the school and the Bilingual/ELAD Department. Additionally, they assist in coordinating parent volunteer activities and perform assigned limited non-instructional duties such as lunchroom, playground, or bus duty, provided it does not interfere with instructional time. Itinerant Bilingual Paraeducators are exempt from these non-instructional duties. The role also includes performing other duties assigned by the principal and/or El-AD Coordinator.
