About The Position

Trailside Academy is a PK-8 Expeditionary Learning (EL) school that supports academic excellence through the Habits of Character: accountability, perseverance, compassion, integrity, and advocacy. Expert staff in each classroom introduce students to rigorous and relevant content and encourage students to take ownership of their learning. From student ownership comes student pride in high-quality work. This position assists the teacher with supervising and instructing students ages 3-5 (preschool) years, reinforcing positive behavior and life skills, implementing curriculum, maintaining documentation, and managing student health and/or special needs. This role requires experience and education in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or Elementary Education.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 0-2 years' experience working with children in a school setting.
  • Must have Early Childhood Teacher qualifications through the Department of Human Services, Child Care Licensing.
  • Two 3 credit college semester hours in Early Childhood Education - one class either being Introduction to Early Childhood (ECE101), or Guidance Strategies (ECE103) and the second must be Infant and Toddler Theory and Practice (ECE 111). Expanding Quality in Infants and Toddlers (EQIT) is also an acceptable class.
  • Must maintain appropriate PDIS credential levels.
  • Must participate in continued ECE learning opportunities.
  • A combination of formal education and professional development to reach ECT qualifications in two years of employment.
  • Basic English, grammar, spelling, writing, word processing, keyboarding, basic computer skills, communication, and/or foreign language.
  • Operating knowledge of general office equipment and general health care procedures.
  • Training in computers or bilingual education, languages, and/or cultures.
  • Mandatory Title IX training is required by the Colorado Department of Education and for all public school employees. Title IX training addresses harassment, discrimination, and bullying. Completing these mandatory Title IX training courses ensure we are meeting state requirements while continuing to foster a culture of safety and belonging across our schools. You will have two mandatory training courses that must be completed within 30 days of your date of hire and are required to be completed on your own time.

Nice To Haves

  • AA Degree or have passed State Approved Assessment.
  • Applicants currently enrolled or attending classes in Early Childhood Education will also be considered.
  • ECT or Group Leader qualified.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Standard Precautions and Medication Administration may be required.
  • Infant Nursery Supervisor Qualified preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Engage students in activities, utilizing educational materials and equipment.
  • Reinforce positive life skills and socialization.
  • Support parents at school functions and provide periodic student progress information.
  • Create a positive, nurturing, and safe child-centered environment.
  • Work with students closely to support their health care needs, including administering first aid, caring for bathroom needs, dispensing medication, assisting with medical needs, executing health care directives, and maintaining health records.
  • Participate in the supervision and overall health and well-being of all students in the classroom.
  • Participate in all required and appropriate in-services, building and department meetings, training, and/or school functions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
