About The Position

Responds to EMS calls and performs a variety of functions related to the care and treatment of patients suffering from urgent and emergent disease and/or injury states in accordance with appropriate rules, regulations, and protocols, according to PA DOH EMS Act and scope of practice. PRN staff work as available to back fill open shifts. Minimal work requirement after orientation is 12-hours per month. Orientation requires regular commitment to complete in 90-days or less.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year In busy 911 system.
  • Certified Paramedic Upon Hire
  • Basic Life Support Upon Hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Upon Hire
  • Ped Adv Life Support Upon Hire
  • Must possess a valid driver's license in the current state of residence.
  • Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.
  • Medical Command Authorization Upon Hire
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator's Course (EVOC) Upon Hire
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700, 800 – Hazardous Materials Awareness Upon Hire
  • Emergency Medical Services Vehicle Operator (EMSVO) Upon Hire

Responsibilities

  • Responds to EMS calls, observes safety policies, and operates an emergency vehicle with due regard for others.
  • Prepares, hangs, monitors, and administers I.V. fluids.
  • Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members.
  • Prepares patients for scheduled procedures and assists in patient assessment.
  • Responds to emergency calls as a single Advanced Life Support Provider
  • Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population.
  • Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment.
  • Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor, and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
