About The Position

This is a part-time position for a Paramedic in the Emergency Department. The role involves providing direct patient care, assisting with procedures, performing diagnostic tests, and maintaining department operations. The Paramedic will work under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and collaborate with physicians to ensure effective patient care and flow within the Emergency Department.

Requirements

  • State certified EMT-P course completion
  • EMT-P Certification, State of Indiana
  • Basic Life Safety (American Heart Association)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Association)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (American Heart Association) or ENPC
  • Competencies for routine clinical tests and procedures must be obtained within one year of employment.
  • ACLS and PALS must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of experience working as a paramedic

Responsibilities

  • Collects and conveys patient health status information to the RN and physician in the Emergency Department.
  • Communicates patient information verbally and in writing to the RN for care plan development and modification.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patients to gain cooperation and ease apprehension.
  • Keeps patients informed of their treatment plan and status.
  • Performs specialized work initiating emergent or appropriate care within the scope of practice and under the supervision of the Emergency Department Registered Nurse.
  • Assists emergency department patients and outpatients to establish and maintain effective patient flow.
  • Assists patients with gowns, takes vital signs, measures and records input and output.
  • Attaches oxygen, oxygen saturation, and cardiac monitor as requested/needed.
  • Initiates lifesaving measures as needed, including airway management, ventilation, hemorrhage control, chest compressions, and fracture/cervical spine stabilization.
  • Stabilizes and extricates injured patients from vehicles and assists patients to and from vehicles and the emergency department.
  • Transports patients as directed.
  • Cleans and dresses wounds.
  • Sets up and assists with procedures as directed.
  • Performs phlebotomy duties, basic laboratory procedures, wound cultures, Point of Care testing, EKGs, and application of splints.
  • Inserts, monitors, and discontinues non-medicated IV catheters in adults and pediatric populations.
  • Assists in the maintenance and operation of the department by reporting defective equipment, cleaning and stocking rooms, answering phones, and retrieving/transporting supplies.
  • May administer limited medications as ordered by the attending physician upon successful completion of the 'ED Paramedic Pharmacology Exam'.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
