About The Position

Provides medical care including evaluation, treatment and stabilization to the ill and injured within the established scope of practice. A Paramedic has a comprehensive knowledge base and is able to assess and provide care for a broad range of medical emergencies. A Paramedic is distinguished in the amount of education/training received, has certification and/or licensure as a Paramedic and provides advanced-level medical care (ALS). Paramedics oversee AEMT's and EMT's in the unit.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of street systems, addresses and the physical layout of Elmore County
  • Knowledge of rescue and emergency medical equipment
  • Skilled in performing technical medical skills with a high degree of accuracy
  • Skilled in understanding and effectively dealing with emotional and medical needs of patients
  • Skilled in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of all units of measure
  • Ability to assess and treat a medical emergency with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to maintain a professional and objective approach to the care of ill or injured persons
  • Ability to learn new concepts in rescue techniques, medical skills and in pre-hospital care
  • Ability to manage a complex work environment related to changing customer needs
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization and resources exist
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and software programs
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance of rescue and medical equipment
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and orders
  • Ability to maintain and exhibit behaviors consistent with principles for service excellence, high standards for performance improvement and organizational values as a representative of Elmore County
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with outside agencies and staff
  • Ability to safely drive and operate emergency vehicles
  • Ability to work overnight in 24-48-hour schedules with possibility of emergency call-ins on off days
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance to ensure timely and quality emergency response services
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of academic and practical knowledge in emergency paramedicine
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Idaho driver's license
  • Must possess and maintain Idaho State Licensure as a Paramedic
  • Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS), Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) meeting AHA standards

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of three years' experience as a certified EMT Paramedic with transport experience is preferred
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications (to be obtained within one-year of employment)
  • Complete an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) (to be obtained within one-year of employment)
  • Complete a HAZ-MAT awareness or equivalent (to be obtained within one-year of employment)
  • Complete ICS-100, ICS-200, and ICS-700 (to be obtained within one-year of employment)

Responsibilities

  • Provides efficient and effective medical care to the ill and injured while focusing on safety
  • Operates emergency vehicles and transports patients to appropriate medical facility
  • Maintains communication with necessary parties including dispatch, hospital, police and fire personnel
  • Review and maintain accurate Patient Care Reports, files and forms
  • Ensures the quality and accuracy of care provided by AEMT's and EMT's
  • Maintains records of vehicles, supplies, training and daily work
  • Cleans and maintains equipment, vehicles and living quarters IAW local, state or federal regulations when required
  • Performs advanced techniques and procedures within the scope of practice
  • Provides training and guidance to personnel
  • Conducts and/or guides technical rescues
  • Must attend sufficient continuing education classes, courses and seminars both on and off duty to maintain paramedic certification, as required by the State of Idaho
  • Performs other related functions as assigned
