About The Position

This position is for an internal candidate at Boston EMS. The role requires a commitment to health equity and racial/social justice issues, and a willingness to learn about public health's role in addressing racism, social determinants of health, and health inequities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of full-time service as a non-probationary Emergency Medical Technician at Boston EMS.
  • Current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician- Paramedic by the Mass. DPH
  • Currently certified as a CPR healthcare provider by the American Heart Association (M.G.L., Ch 111C, Section 3 and 6).
  • Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support by AHA.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of pharmacology; of drugs used in advanced life support and possible reaction; of federal and state drug laws; of pathophysiology; of advanced human anatomy and physiology; basic human anatomy and physiology; of basic medical terminology; knowledge of medical telemetry; of Advanced Life Support equipment; of MGL, Ch 89, 90, and 111C; of Mass. DPH Re-Certification requirements; of Regional Communication Protocols; of the major transportation routes in the locality; of defensive and emergency driving procedures; of emergency medical service vehicle limitations; of local emergency medical service Point-of-Entry procedures.

  • Ability to follow instructions from an authorized Physician
  • Ability to conduct triage
  • Ability to evaluate the mechanism of injury
  • Ability to obtain, read and interpret an electrocardiogram
  • Ability to monitor a patient's status
  • Ability to perform Basic Life Support
  • Ability to extricate patients in a safe and accepted manner
  • Ability to safely lift and carry a normal adult with all required emergency medical service equipment with the aid of another Emergency Medical Technician
  • Ability to recognize and react to hazards at an emergency scene
  • Ability to operate emergency medical service vehicles in a safe and accepted manner
  • Ability to inspect ambulances and other emergency medical service vehicles
  • Ability to inspect a vehicle's medical equipment
  • Ability to operate assigned emergency medical service radio/communication system
  • Ability to ensure that all certifications are kept current
  • Ability to work effectively with other public safety personnel
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
