This full-time position involves collecting and conveying patient health status information to the RN and physician in the Emergency Department. The Paramedic communicates verbally and in writing with the RN for care plan development and modification, explains procedures to patients, and keeps them informed of their treatment plan. The role includes initiating emergent or appropriate care within the scope of practice under RN supervision, assisting with patient flow, and performing various patient care tasks. This includes taking vital signs, measuring input/output, attaching monitoring equipment, initiating life-saving measures, stabilizing and extricating patients, and assisting patients with transport. The Paramedic also performs phlebotomy, basic laboratory procedures, wound care, EKGs, and IV catheter insertion/discontinuation. Responsibilities extend to maintaining department operations through equipment reporting, room stocking, answering phones, and supply transport. Limited medication administration may be permitted after specific training and examination. Other duties as assigned.
