About The Position

The Paramedic responds to emergency calls. Performs medical services and transporting patients to medical facilities. Cares for sick or injured in emergency medical settings. Renders initial evaluations of patients and directs advanced life support and/or critical care procedures for sick and injured persons. Provides out of hospital emergency medical care and assists with ground transportation operations for critical and emergent patients, including non-emergency/routine medical transports and life threatening emergencies. Performs interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. Leads stabilization and safe transport of patients needing emergency care. Functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response system, under medical oversight, and serves as a link from the scene to the emergency health care system. Completes incident reports in a timely and accurate manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be licensed as a Paramedic by the State of Alabama.
  • Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
  • Ability to lift/push up to 200 pounds; this position will assist in the evacuation of sick and injured persons during an emergency.
  • Working knowledge of the University of Alabama campus and surrounding area.
  • Functional understanding of basic equipment typically found on an ambulance.
  • Functional understanding of communications equipment, including telephone, 2-way radios, and recording equipment.
  • Excellent clinical, organizational, and administrative skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and health care professionals.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information and the requirement to follow HIPAA regulations at all times.
  • Ability to cope with stressful conditions.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and directional initiative.
  • Working knowledge of data entry and Microsoft Office.
  • Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Final candidate(s) must successfully pass a pre-employment background investigation and information obtained from social media and other internet sources.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and CPR/AED First Aid certification, or ability to obtain upon hire.
