About The Position

The Paramedic will be responsible for providing Basic Life Support (BLS) patient care, Advanced Life Support (ALS) patient care, and ambulance transportation. This role involves maintaining units and equipment, ensuring proper vehicle operation, and adhering to state and federal regulations. The position requires a thorough knowledge of local geography and EMS guidelines. Paramedics act as a resource to others, participate in continuing education, and complete station duties. They respond to calls efficiently, assess scenes, and provide ALS patient care in accordance with established guidelines and local protocols. Completing medical records and transportation reports is also a key function. Employees perform within the Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year of related experience
  • Working knowledge of standard practices and procedures
  • Paramedic License
  • ACLS Certification
  • Driver's License
  • Healthcare Provider (CPR) Certification
  • Knowledge of emergency clinical practices and protocol
  • Knowledge of use of medical and related emergency equipment
  • Knowledge of local geography
  • Ability to act calmly and quickly in emergencies
  • Ability to work independently as part of a team
  • Ability to create and maintain a positive and cooperative working environment in stressful situations
  • Ability to work during odd hours and for extended periods
  • Ability to work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to work with much standing, bending and kneeling
  • Ability to work with a partner in lifting patients whose weight occasionally exceeds 200 pounds
  • Ability to avoid or minimize health risks from exposure to ill patients
  • Exercising judgment, dexterity, and physical coordination
  • Preparing clear and concise reports
  • Driving emergency vehicles
  • Georgia Paramedic License
  • Valid driver's license
  • Maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record
  • Minimum of two (2) years of driving experience

Responsibilities

  • Providing Basic Life Support (BLS) patient care

  • Maintaining units and equipment in a clean, organized and ready condition
  • Ensuring proper fuel, fluid and tire pressure levels
  • Reporting equipment damage or malfunction
  • Knowledge of state, federal and regulatory agency rules and regulations, EMS guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Evaluating self and meeting pre-established professional goals
  • Participating in required annual health system and EMS specific continuing education
  • Maintaining a thorough working knowledge of local geography
  • Acting as a resource to students, new employees and other personnel
  • Assisting other staff members in providing care
  • Timely attendance at staff meetings and mandatory in-service training
  • Completing all daily station duties
  • Responding to all assigned calls in the most appropriate, safe and efficient manner
  • Diagnosing and treating patients with appropriate techniques, resources and equipment
  • Completing appropriate medical records and transportation reports
  • Maintaining a thorough working knowledge of current Paramedic standards of care
  • Performing within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program
  • Leading the work of one to four co-employees and checking performance of assigned work
  • Providing emergency and non-emergency ambulance operations demonstrating excellent driving judgement and due regard for public safety
