About The Position

MercyOne Elkader Medical Center is a 25-bed critical access hospital that serves as a vital link to rural communities in Clayton County and surrounding areas through its ambulance and emergency services. MercyOne is dedicated to providing quality, personalized, and safe healthcare close to home. The emergency department operates 24/7, staffed by board-certified physicians and advanced practitioners trained to handle emergencies. The medical center is certified as a Level IV Trauma Center by the Iowa Department of Public Health. This role involves responding to 911 calls and interfacility transfer requests, providing direct patient care within the Central Ambulance service area. Additionally, the Paramedic PRN will assist a Registered Nurse with delegated patient care tasks in the Emergency Department, initiating and providing care within their scope of practice for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.

Requirements

Licensed State of Iowa Paramedic (required), must maintain active licensure.
Complete required continuing education every two years to maintain current certification status.
Current ACLS, PALS, and BLS.

Responsibilities

Respond to 911 calls and interfacility and tiered transfer requests, providing direct patient care within the Central Ambulance service-area.
Under general supervision of a Registered Nurse, assist with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care within CCH’s Emergency Department.
Initiate and provide care within the scope of practice as defined by law providing emergency care to a wide range of patients including pediatric, adult, and geriatric.
Provide direct patient care in both the pre-hospital and hospital setting.
Cover on-call hours as directed and per departmental need.
