About The Position

Paramedic, Full Time Nights at Piedmont Eastside Medical Center- Emergency Dept. This is a 38-bed Emergency Department that sees an average of 160 patients a day with various acuities. It is a primary Stroke and Stemi receiving facility with two helicopter pads on campus. The department has 5 PODs (Patient Originating Destinations) where patients are assigned based on acuity, including a Behavioral Health Pod. The team consists of Charge nurses, ED Flow Coordinators, Paramedics, ED Techs, PCTs, Mental Health Technicians, and Unit Secretaries who collaborate with ED Providers to deliver exceptional care. All staff members must have BLS. RNs require ACLS and PALS, with NIH being highly preferred and required within an allotted timeframe.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
  • BLS Certification Upon Hire Required
  • ACLS Upon Hire Required
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Paramedics new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date within 180 Days Required
  • Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Georgia and National Registry Preferred
  • 1 year of experience as a Paramedic Preferred
  • Skill and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in-writing.
  • Skill and ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Skill and ability in Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • NIH highly preferred, must obtain within allotted timeframe.
  • Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Georgia and National Registry Preferred
  • 1 year of experience as a Paramedic Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Professional Registered Nurse and/or Physician, facilitate age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintain a safe environment, educate patients and their families, collect information, communicate effectively, and utilize technology.
  • Participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of health care services and tasks.
  • Serve as a patient advocate, educator, and participate in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Provide oversight of unlicensed personnel.
  • Have a working knowledge of intramuscular, sublingual, oral, rectal, nebulizers, intravenous, and intravenous push medications, including their effects, side effects, drug-to-drug interactions, and anaphylaxis protocols.
  • Possess working knowledge of venous blood sampling and cardiac monitoring.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the body’s systems, including neurological, respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and primary and secondary trauma assessment.
  • Provide safe patient care with an understanding and awareness of age-appropriate and culturally aware needs.
  • Assess a patient's needs and respond to direction from the Professional Registered Nurse and Physician.
  • Perform EKGs.
  • Perform Foley catheter insertions.
  • Start IVs and IOs, and draw blood.
  • Transport patients to other departments.
  • Monitor patients for arrhythmias and report abnormal rhythms and changes immediately to the Charge Nurse and Nurse.
